International Zero Waste Day, celebrated on March 30th and established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, aims to promote more sustainable consumption and production patterns, encouraging the transition to a circular economy and reducing waste.

In a context where the data is increasingly worrying — with more than 430 million tons of plastic produced annually, much of it for single use — it becomes urgent to rethink habits and behaviors. On average, each person produces about 1.4 kg of waste per day, the equivalent of more than 500 kg per year.

Joining this global cause, the Tapada Nacional de Mafra invites you to participate in a different and conscious experience: a Sustainable Treasure Hunt, on April 3rd.

Along a walking route of approximately 3 km, and with the support of a short guide, participants will be challenged to discover, learn and reflect on good environmental practices, namely in reducing waste, reusing materials and correctly separating waste.

More than an outdoor activity, this is an opportunity to (re)learn how to integrate the principles of the 5 R's — Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle — into daily life, transforming small gestures into real contributions to a more sustainable planet.
