The programme is organised around the theme of Resurrection, understood as artistic renewal, sonic transformation and creative rebirth.
In Samuel Barber’s Summer Music, originally written for wind quintet, the music charts a course of progressive sonic awakening, evolving from introspection towards a full expressive affirmation.
This is followed by Gustav Mahler’s Three Songs “Des Knaben Wunderhorn” (The Boy’s Magic Horn), where resurrection manifests itself in the transformation of the folk song. In this version for wind quintet, folk-inspired melodies take on a new timbral life, whilst preserving their essential identity.
With Fernando Lopes-Graça’s Sete Lembranças para Vieira da Silva, the dimension of memory and artistic evocation emerges: music transforms memory into a living presence, affirming creative continuity as a form of renewal.
The concert culminates with Antonín Dvorák’s American Quartet N.º 12, originally for string quartet and presented in a version for wind quintet, which expresses perhaps the most human form of resurrection: an inner rebirth, marked by serenity, energy and optimism.
Throughout the programme, the audience experiences different forms of resurrection—inner, aesthetic and sonic—revealing music’s capacity for continual renewal.
